Going Public

main image

Once there was a little boy who grew up in a little town and worked in his fathers home based business.

As it was for centuries, it was the custom of the day for the father to teach his trade to his son when he turned 12 years of age.

For many years, this young man worked side by side with his father as his father taught him all he knew.

Then at a certain point, this young man left the family business to go out on his own.

Though his family didn't fully understand him; he had learned all he could from his earthly father and now he needed to follow his Heavenly Father. As you may know by now, this young man was Jesus of Nazareth. At the age of 30, he would begin to reveal to the world who he really was. He was more than a carpenter! He was God in the flesh.

In Matthew 3:13-17, Jesus goes public.

By this act, Jesus teaches us Five Lessons on impacting our world for Him:

  1. There's a time to go public - v13 baptism is a public declaration.
  2. Jesus went public and God was pleased. God will be pleased as we go public for Him.
  3. Baptism is the first step to show others your faith in Christ.
  4. Testimony is living the difference (II Cor.5:17).
  5. Witnessing is natural as we understand what God has done for us. (Rom. 1:16).

It will require humility… 14  John forbade him…he felt unworthy.

Yet Jesus, though sinless humbled himself to be baptized… Showing us the way to go public…

Are you willing to go public with Jesus, today?

P.R.A.Y. Strategy

main image

In our P.R.A.Y. strategy, Praise tops the list of how we should approach our God. Psalm 22:3 reminds us of what praise means to both us and our God

3But thou art holy, O thou that inhabitest the praises of Israel.

As we make time to Praise Him, he draws near to us. The Psalmist continues in Psalm 100

1{A Psalm of praise.} Make a joyful noise unto the LORD, all ye lands.
2Serve the LORD with gladness: come before his presence with singing.
3Know ye that the LORD he is God: it is he that hath made us, and not we ourselves; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.
4Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name.
5For the LORD is good; his mercy is everlasting and his truth endureth to all generations.

Today can be a day of praise if we:

  1. Use our mouth to make joyful noises instead of grunts and groans.
  2. Serve Him with gladness motivated to please Him and no one else.
  3. Sing before Him songs of praise that draw Him near.
  4. Seek to know Him through His word. His word confirming that He alone is God, He alone is Creator, and we belong solely to Him.
  5. Giving Him thanks, praise, and blessing. May our mouths open often with Praise due His name. Psalm 29:2
  6. The LORD is good. LORD meaning Yaweh, the I AM. He is the self existent one. We can praise Him today because He is a God whose mercy is just like Him- everlasting! That's good news for a sinner like me. So open His Word and see His Truth; then lift up your heart and praise Him today.
