Operation Christmas Child (OCC) is a project of Samaritan’s Purse ministry. It is an opportunity to share the Good News of Jesus Christ to children around the world through a simple shoe box gift. These shoe boxes are filled with new toys, school supplies, personal hygiene products and you may include a personal note to the recipient. It takes $7.00 to ship one shoe box gift around the world to bring joy to a child. These boxes are sent to countries suffering from poverty, disease, natural disaster, famine, and war. Samaritan’s Purse volunteers team up with local churches in other countries, serving hand in hand with local Pastor to spread the gospel.
Each year during the fall our church has the pleasure to participate in promoting and collecting shoe boxes for Operation Christmas Child ministry. You can be a part of this evangelizing tool by collecting small items like wooden pencils, sharpeners, erasers, toothbrushes, toothpaste, bars of soap (Ivory or Lever 2000, Irish Spring scent is too strong and penetrates the items in and outside the shoe box), hair brush, combs, socks, mittens, knitted hats, toy cars, stuff animals, etc., and build a shoe box gift. Please no liquid or aerosol products because these may break or burst during the shipment. The Greatest Journey (TGJ) is follow-up discipleship program, that children of the shoe box gift have an opportunity to enroll in a 12 lesson discipleship class to learn about Jesus Christ. Children will come to faith in Jesus and share the Good News with their friends and family. Upon graduation of this class, the children will get a Bible in their own language. For just $6.00 you can sponsor a child to participate in The Greatest Journey program. To donate online, please visit http://www.samaritanspurse.org/what-we-do/the-greatest-journey/.
